Get Your Home Ready for the Holidays
Decorating for the holidays is always an exciting time of the year! There are always questions that come up when we get ready to decorate. Do I decorate before or after Thanksgiving? Should I get a real tree or use an artificial? Do I stick with the same ornaments I’ve used for years or get new ones? Traditional decorations or more rustic? White or rainbow lights? Lights are the ultimate dilemma in my house with a 5 year old who loves color! Mom usually wins, but now we have two trees. One with colored lights, so in fact, he won.
We take time decorating our trees, our houses and tables so our homes are filled with the holiday spirit. Getting everything ready for the season and our guests, paying attention to every detail and ornament placement. We move furniture, swap pillows, hand towels, change out our fireplace mantel décor. There’s a long list of things we do outside and inside our homes. With everything that gets decorated there are some key pieces that can’t be changed – like your furniture and window treatments. So how do you make your holiday décor match your everyday décor?
Let’s take a scroll through some different holiday styles and find out what works best for you. No matter what your preferences are, the goal is to make your home reflect your style and bring holiday joy!
If you love some distressed wood and burlap, this is definitely the look that works for you! Paired with natural earth-toned colors like brown and gray, this style allows you to add lots of textures to your holiday décor. Simple patterns such as checks and stripes add interest without overpowering.
Window treatments in textured woven fabrics like the one below add the same rustic feel. Using this fabric with our Plain Top drapery also gives it a more casual style and allows the fabric to hang and drape naturally.
Traditional red and green colors from bold and vibrant or deep and saturated, these colors will always get you in the holiday spirit.
Classic architectural influences in fabrics such as medallions and damasks play so well with this holiday style. Accented with golds and silvers, these fabrics are an up-to-date take on classics.
Who doesn’t love a little bit of snow with their Christmas? Winter Wonderland is exactly what you picture – lots of white, soft textures and a touch of blue. Then again, Carole Fabrics is located in Georgia. This is what I imagine a winter wonderland would look like if we had an actual winter.
The subtle pattern in the embroidery on these drapes and crystal light chandelier easily add to an elegant winter feeling. Clean crisp colors mixed with lush textures in fabrics can make your home feel warm and light, the perfect backdrop to a wintery snow theme.
Glitz and glamour are definitely two things people who love this style are all about. Sometimes Christmas isn’t Christmas without a little glitter! Gold has been a classic Christmas color and we are seeing more and more of it throughout our homes and not only during the holidays.
From shiny to satin metallics, these fabrics definitely give a classy edge to any window. Metallics can also fall into any category – from contemporary to traditional. It’s up to you and what type of metallics fit with the rest of your home.
Like every wrapped present, trimmings on a window treatment can be the finishing touch. Banding on the leading edge of drapery panel or elegant simple beaded fringe adds that extra step to make your windows fit your style.
Happy decorating and happy holidays from all your friends at Carole Fabrics!
